How to Sign Up for Crop Insurance
Signing up for crop insurance shouldn’t feel like another pile of paperwork on the kitchen table. At Redd Summit, we make crop insurance easy for you by keeping the sign-up process transparent and easily accessible.
Here’s how the process works at Redd Summit Advisors.
1. Meet with a Crop Insurance Expert
The first step is sitting down with someone who knows the program inside and out. One or two conversations is usually all it takes to walk through coverage options that match your crops, fields, and local risk. Whether you’re weighing yield protection, revenue protection, or add-on county options, our job is to explain the options so you can choose a crop insurance plan that fits your operation.
2. Send Over the Basics
Most row-crop farmers only need two things to sign up for a crop insurance policy:
- Actual Production History (APH)
- A signed application
From there, our team verifies your information, confirms eligibility, and makes sure everything lines up with USDA rules and deadlines.
3. Turn in Planted Acres
Your agent will submit your planted acreage to the insurance provider. This may also include certifying your acres at an FSA office and submitting a copy of your Producer Print.
4. File a Claim If Needed
If a storm, drought, or price drop pushes your yields or revenue below your coverage guarantee, you’ll want to report a notice of loss.
Our agents and account managers are available at any time to file a claim and begin the adjusting process. While meeting with an adjuster happens independently from our office, we can answer any questions you might have about the filing and claim process.
5. Wrap Up with Production Reporting
Once harvest is completed, we’ll help you file your production report. This step verifies the acres, practices, and units tied to your policy.
